Planning a photo booth for an outdoor or tent wedding

Short answer: an outdoor or tent wedding can have a photo booth as long as it has four things: level ground, a standard power outlet or generator nearby, shade from direct sun, and shelter from wind and rain. The booth brings its own lighting, so it keeps working after sunset.

The four things the booth needs outside

Level ground

Grass is fine if it is flat. A plywood floor or tent flooring is better, especially if the ground is soft after rain.

Power

One standard outlet or a generator connection, close to the booth. If the power source is across the yard, tell us, so we can plan a safe cord run.

Shade

Direct sun washes out photos and heats up the screen and printer. Inside a tent or under a covered patio is ideal.

Shelter from wind and rain

Backdrops catch wind like a sail, and printers do not like humidity. Put the booth along a tent wall, not in the open.

After sunset

The booth has its own studio lighting, so photos look just as good at 10pm as they do at 4pm. It also becomes a light source guests gravitate towards once it gets dark.

Niagara venues to think about

Winery lawns in Niagara-on-the-Lake, orchard and farm venues in Lincoln, and backyard tents all over the region work well with a little planning. Rural venues often have weak wifi, which is fine; read does a photo booth need wifi.

Quick answers

Can a photo booth run on a generator?

Usually, yes, if the generator provides clean, steady power. Tell us about it when you book so we can confirm.

What if it rains?

The booth needs to stay dry, so plan a spot under the tent or a covered patio from the start rather than moving it mid-event.
